Bike over the Potomac
I began my usual bike ride by heading over to the Mt. Vernon bike trail. I toyed with the idea of attempting the ride to Mt. Vernon but decided it was not a good idea in the heat of the day; that is best started when it is not so hot.
When I reached the giant compass in the sidewalk, I decided to find the trail over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and ride over to National Harbor, MD. It was a perfect day to ride over the bridge, sunny, warm and not too windy. It can get pretty windy riding over the Potomac on the high bridge, but today was perfect. It was the first time I rode over there so I had to take time to see the views on the trip. It was a steep ride up from the Virginia side and some hairpin turns down the Maryland side but nothing I couldn’t handle.
The US Marine Band playing in the Salute to Sunset Concert Series rewarded me with a concert on the waterfront. They were pretty impressive. Can’t forget to visit the Peeps store, one of the only ones in the US and of course the “The Awakening” all aluminum sculpture built in 1980 and moved to National Harbor in 2008.
